    About Golf Coach Joe

Selfie of Coach Joe and his daughter Lucy in a golf cart at Wenham Country Club.

    Patient. Encouraging. Professional.

I've coached golfers of all ages, from beginners to college athletes. I started a few years ago by assisting the golf pro at Wenham Country Club with the PGA Jr. League. Now, I'm the Women's Golf coach at Gordon College and continue coaching juniors at Wenham CC. I also teach 6th-8th grade middle school math and started a golf club at my school last year with 24 participants, ages 7 through 13. This year, we've increased enrollment in the program to 36.

    • NCAA Women's Golf Coach, Gordon College
    • NCAA Men's Assistant Coach, Gordon College
    • PGA Jr. League Assistant Coach, Wenham CC
    • School Golf Coach, The Saints Academy, Beverly, MA
    • Certified US Golf Teachers Federation, 2nd year.

Playing golf early establishes good habits for the future. It also fosters mental fortitude, determination, and self-reliance. I support growth by teaching responsibility for one's game, playing with integrity, and acknowledging that mistakes can be fixed through practice and perseverance.

if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I coach with the same philosophy, regardless of one's level of play or stage in life. You are only as good as you can be if you set your priorities in this order.

Athletes can only perform well and be at their best if they take care of themselves first. That means eating healthy, respecting their bodies, maintaining a positive attitude, and being mindful.

Even at the NCAA Division III level, I coach with these same philosophies and priorities:

    1. Self: Prioritize your mental and physical health above all else. Be disciplined in keeping your priorities, even when things are hard. Persistence and resilience in the face of uncertainty fosters growth.
    2. Family: Prioritizing your health can help you better support your loved ones. They deserve the best version of you, so be present and give back to those who care for you.
    3. Academics (for students of all ages): Prepare for a better tomorrow for yourself and your loved ones. Dedicating yourself to lifelong learning is a matter of respect for yourself and those around you. Focus on your academic obligations before stepping up to the tee.
    4. Golf: If you want to improve, practice consistently. This is the only way to enhance your skills and discover your strengths. Once you fix one thing about your game, errors in other areas standout. Be ready to take it one step at a time and not treat a little fix as a the solution for everything.
    5. Everything else: Stay vibrant and mindful of your goals. Socialize and enjoy life; don't let work overshadow what truly matters. A sense of fulfillment comes from more than money or status. The type of person you are in life and who you are on the course eerily mirror each other.

In each session, I customize the lesson for the student, focusing on specific aspects of the game (swing mechanics, short game, putting, course management, and mental toughness).

Students must return regularly to build on previous lessons and enhance their skills. I try not to give students more than 1 or 2 things to fix or focus on in each session. It's then up to them to practice. There is no "quick fix" in golf.

While I can address a simple issue in one session, this minor adjustment often leads to new challenges as players improve beyond their expectations.

Important note for parents: You may have learned the game in a certain way, which may work for you, or perhaps you've developed some bad habits. Each stage of swing development in a child may not appear as you think the "right way" looks. There is a method to effective teaching. Trust the process, and resist the temptation to unteach something they recently learned in a lesson. Be patient with your children and remember that growth is a lifelong commitment. The results will come as they develop their swing.

Session lengths can vary depending on each student’s needs. Some advanced players may benefit from a 9-hole lesson lasting up to 2 hours or 1-2 hours of short-game practice. Meanwhile, some beginners may only require an introduction during their first lesson, which may last about a half-hour—followed by 1-hour lessons each week.

Buying a bundle of lessons ensures that beginner or intermediate players receive regular instruction at a consistent pace.

Looking for a gift for your young player, gift certificates are also available.

I do! Group sessions are available for 3-4 junior golfers (under 17) or 1-2 adult learners. Depending on the group's level of play, group lessons can occur around a practice green, at the range, in a simulator, or as a playing lesson.

I have listed pricing on my booking engine, categorized by age: juniors (under 17), college students (18-25), and adults represent my three pricing tiers.

Group lessons are organized according to the players' age groups, and a multigenerational group price is available for small family lessons.

Bundles offer a discount per individual, and group bundles can be requested.
